The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual inspection of your chimney and a cleaning after each cord of fire wood burned. Don't wait until the busy fall season; get your chimney cleaned TODAY!
Only burn hard woods and avoid burning the following: newspaper, wrapping paper or pine wood as these can cause a heavy creosote buildup. Creosote buildup can lead to flue fires.
If you experience a chimney fire, always call the fire department. Generally, in the case of a brick chimney flue fire, the easiest way to put out the fire is to throw a glass of water directly on the fire: the water will flash into steam, rise up the chimney and inhibit oxygen, and snuff out the fire. Sometimes a second glass of water is needed, but not often. DO NOT attempt to go to the roof and force water down the chimney. This can cause serious burns and damage the flue.
Now is the time to schedule your chimney cleaning!
